The city of Santa Cruz, California, has had a long history of Leftist thought. However, the recent Supreme Court abomination that governments can take property from citizens and give it to wealthier citizens has shown the city's true colors.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/30/national/30property.html shows how they're using eminent domain to take land from some folks, including land with a well respected and successful restaurant, and giving it to developers who want to build condominiums. Yup, the old "social darwinism" concept that if you're rich enough to get your way, and can afford to bribe politicians (even in the form of promising more tax revenue per acre), you get what you want and become even wealthier.
There are few things more neo-con than that.
